Loved Ones Training Series

This series is specifically for people with incarcerated loved ones, offering resources and tools to fight for the rights and dignity of loved ones while working towards decarceration in Illinois.

Abolition 101

Benji Hart, a Chicago-based author, educator, and artist whose work centers Black radicalism, queer liberation, and prison abolition, facilitates this training. This training covers Prison Industrial Complex (PIC) abolition. This is meant to be a space of learning and community building!

Writing Grievances

Speakers include Marshan Allen, formerly incarcerated activist and national policy director at Represent Justice; Pablo Mendoza, formerly incarcerated activist, project manager, and research fellow at Prison Neighborhood Arts Project (PNAP); and Alan Mills, lawyer and executive director of the Uptown People’s Law Center. This training outlines how to write a successful grievance, discusses why they are needed, and addresses common questions and concerns about writing them!

Legislative Organizing

Facilitated by Alex Boutros, this training breaks down the legislative process and the different ways to advocate throughout the process. Alex Boutros has extensive legislative organizing experience in Illinois, with a history of advocating for criminal justice and democracy reforms.
